Albergue Essentia

Essentia Hostel is a small, privately run pilgrim hostel on the Camino Francés, situated directly on the route through Redecilla del Camino in the province of Burgos. It opened in 2016 and offers ten beds across two rooms configured with four and six-bed bunk arrangements.

What sets it apart from more utilitarian albergues is a degree of personality: there is a piano and a guitar available for guests, and the hostel offers a communal dinner for thirteen euros, which gives the place a social character that purely functional stopovers often lack. Bed sheets are provided, individual lockers are available, and the hostel accepts pets and offers covered bicycle storage. A washer and dryer are on site, though at extra cost.

It operates from March through October and accepts reservations, which is worth bearing in mind for anyone walking during the busier spring and summer months. Check-in opens at 13:00. With only ten beds, the atmosphere tends toward the intimate, and it is exclusively for pilgrims rather than general tourists.
