Albergue Parroquial de Santa María

The Santa María Parish Hostel sits in the heart of Carrión de los Condes, tucked just behind the Romanesque church of Santa María del Camino, one of the most significant churches on the Castilian stretch of the Camino Francés. The hostel is run by the Comunidad de La Conversión alongside volunteer hospitaleros, giving it a distinctly spiritual character that sets it apart from municipal or private alternatives.

What draws many pilgrims here is not just the bed and the price, but the daily gathering that takes place each afternoon. The community organizes a religious and musical encounter with pilgrims at the hostel itself, followed by a Pilgrim's Blessing Mass celebrated in the adjacent church of Santa María. For those walking the Camino with a devotional purpose, this is one of the more meaningful stops along the Meseta.

The hostel is open from mid-March through October and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. It accommodates up to 50 pilgrims across three shared dormitories at 10 euros a night. Practical amenities include a free kitchen, washer and dryer, refrigerator, and covered bicycle storage. Pilgrim credentials can also be stamped and issued at the hostel's pilgrim office.

Carrión de los Condes itself was an important medieval town on the Camino, historically prosperous and home to several monasteries and noble families. Leaving the town heading west, pilgrims face one of the longer uninhabited stretches of the entire French Way, nearly 17 kilometers to the next services at Calzadilla de la Cueza.
