About this property
The Albergue Rosalía occupies one of Castrojeriz's most historically significant buildings, the Casa del Cordón, which dates back more than five centuries. The name refers to the Franciscan knotted cord carved in stone above the doorway, a decorative motif seen on several prominent Spanish buildings of the late medieval period, most famously the Casa del Cordón in Burgos where Ferdinand and Isabella once received Columbus after his second voyage to the Americas. The one here is a quieter example of the same tradition, embedded in the fabric of a town that has served pilgrims on the Camino Francés since the Middle Ages.
Castrojeriz itself stretches along a single long street beneath the ruins of a hilltop castle, and the town appears on Camino records going back to at least the 9th century. The stage arriving here, typically counted as stage 15 of the French Way, is a long one, and the climb out the following morning over the Mostelares plateau is equally demanding, making a good night's rest here genuinely useful rather than just a comfort.
The hostel offers beds with individual power outlets and cotton sheets, communal meals with vegan and gluten-free options, laundry facilities, and bike storage with basic maintenance tools. The community dining setup gives it a social character that suits the slower, more restorative pace many pilgrims are looking for by this point on the route.
