The Sansol Albergue sits in the quiet village of Sansol on the Camino Francés, just before the descent toward Torres del Río. Sansol itself is a small hilltop settlement in Navarre, perched above the Ebro valley with views that reward the climb from Viana. The village sees a steady flow of pilgrims but remains genuinely off the beaten track compared to the larger stops on the route.
The hostel opened in 2014 and came under new management in 2024. It has 24 beds in a shared dormitory and operates exclusively for pilgrims from March through October. The setup is straightforward: bunk beds, individual lockers, a washing machine and dryer, and covered bicycle storage. There is also a garden with a footbath, which is a practical and welcome feature after a long day on the trail.
What makes this place a little different is the community feel. Musical instruments are available for pilgrims to use, and the bar-restaurant offers a communal dinner for 16 euros with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Breakfast is available as well. The hostel is accessible to people with reduced mobility and is pet-friendly on request. For pilgrims who want a smaller, quieter overnight stop with some social warmth, Sansol is worth considering rather than pushing on to Logroño or backtracking to Viana.
