Albergue Santa Fe sits in the lower part of Cardeñuela Riopico, a small village on the Camino Francés just a short walk from the Montes de Oca and roughly 20 kilometers east of Burgos. The village itself is a quiet stopping point along one of the most-walked stretches of the French Way, where pilgrims are beginning to feel the pull of the city ahead while still moving through open Castilian countryside.
Opened in 2014 and run privately by Miryam Janeth Santa Fernández, the hostel is exclusive to pilgrims and positioned next to the river, giving it a calm, tucked-away feel. Accommodation ranges from shared dormitories sleeping five or ten people to private single and double rooms, making it flexible for different budgets and needs. The price for a dorm bed reflects the number of dormitories used at a given time.
The bar-restaurant on site serves a community dinner for 12 euros, which on smaller pilgrim hostels like this often turns into one of the more sociable meals of the journey. Breakfast is available for 3 to 5 euros. Practical amenities include a washer and dryer, covered bicycle storage for those on the cycling route, a garden, and the notable allowance of pets. Reservations are accepted and required outside of peak season. The hostel is open year-round with the exception of the Christmas period.
