About This Stage
The first full stage in Asturias follows the coast through a landscape of green meadows, limestone cliffs, and sheltered beaches. The terrain is moderately hilly with pleasant walking through the distinctive Asturian landscape of coast and campo.
The route passes small fishing villages and through the unique karst landscape of the Asturian coast, with sinkholes, sea caves, and dramatic rock formations. The bufones (blowholes) near the coast are a natural phenomenon where the sea forces air through rock passages.
Llanes is a lively Asturian coastal town with a medieval old town, a working fishing harbour, and beautiful beaches including the Playa de Torimbia. The town has excellent services and a vibrant food scene featuring fabada (Asturian bean stew) and sidra (cider).
Terrain: Coastal paths, rural lanes, gentle hills, cliff sections, beach approaches
