About This Stage
A moderate stage through the green Asturian countryside, alternating between coastal views and inland rural walking. The terrain is rolling with a mix of farm tracks, rural lanes, and paths through pastoral landscape of apple orchards and dairy farms.
The route passes through the distinctive Asturian coastal landscape, with the coast visible intermittently and the green hills rising towards the Picos de Europa in the distance. Small fishing villages and farming hamlets dot the route.
Colunga is a small Asturian market town near the Museo del Jurasico de Asturias (MUJA), a dinosaur museum built on a clifftop site rich in Jurassic fossils. The museum's building is shaped like a dinosaur footprint. Dinosaur footprints can also be found along the nearby cliffs. The town has adequate services with accommodation and restaurants. Try the local cider and Asturian cheese.
