About This Stage
A long stage approaching Gijon, Asturias' largest city, through hilly terrain with significant climbing. The route passes through rural Asturian countryside before entering the city's suburbs and reaching the waterfront.
The walking is demanding with over 1,350 metres of climbing across 30 kilometres. The terrain mixes forest, farmland, and increasingly urban landscape as you approach Gijon. The approach is not the most scenic but the destination rewards the effort.
Gijon (Xixon in Asturian) is a vibrant coastal city with the Roman baths of Campo Valdes, the Cimadevilla old town on a headland, the Laboral cultural centre, and the Playa de San Lorenzo urban beach. The sidra (cider) culture is deeply embedded, with cider bars throughout the old town. Full services available.
Terrain: Hilly coastal approach, forest paths, suburban roads, urban streets, beach promenade
