About Zabaldika

Zabaldika is a small village in Navarra on the Camino Francés, between Irotz and Trinidad de Arre, as pilgrims approach Pamplona.

The village sits above the Arga River valley and is best known for the Church of San Esteban, a Romanesque church with a semicircular apse and historic doorway. The church is one of the main reasons pilgrims pause here, especially when it is open.

Zabaldika has a long connection with the Camino. Like many villages in the Arga Valley, it served as a resting place for pilgrims walking toward Pamplona. Today, that tradition continues through the parish albergue beside the church, which is run with a strong spirit of pilgrim hospitality.

For pilgrims, Zabaldika is quiet, scenic, and simple. It has accommodation, but services are limited, so it is better not to rely on the village for shops, pharmacies, or multiple food options. Many pilgrims stop briefly to visit the church, rest, or take in the valley views before continuing toward Trinidad de Arre and Pamplona.
