About This Stage
The toughest stage on the Coastal route, with over 1,000 metres of accumulated climbing across 26.5 kilometres. The route leaves Baiona and tackles a series of steep coastal hills and headlands before descending into the industrial port city of Vigo. The terrain is relentless, with very little flat walking.
The first half features dramatic coastal scenery as the path climbs over headlands with views of the Cies Islands (a Galician national park accessible by ferry from Vigo). The route then transitions through suburban and industrial areas on the approach to Vigo, which is less scenic but physically easier.
Vigo is Galicia's largest city and a major fishing port. While not the most charming stop on the route, it has a lively old town (Casco Vello) with excellent tapas bars and oyster vendors in the streets. Full services are available, and the city makes a practical overnight stop before the shorter stages ahead.
Terrain: Steep coastal climbs, forest trails, urban roads, beach sections, rocky paths
