About This Stage
A short but surprisingly hilly stage along one of the most beautiful stretches of the Galician Atlantic coast. Despite the modest distance, nearly 500 metres of elevation gain across coastal headlands makes this a physically engaging day. The path alternates between dramatic cliff-top sections and sheltered cove descents.
The wild coastline dominates the experience, with crashing waves, granite rock formations, and sweeping ocean panoramas. This section rivals any coastal walk in Europe for scenery. Small beaches appear between headlands, offering rest spots with a dramatic backdrop.
Baiona (Bayona) is a historic port town with a spectacular setting. The Monterreal Fortress, now a parador (luxury state hotel), juts into the Atlantic on a peninsula and is open to walk around freely. Baiona was famously the first European port to receive news of the Americas when the Pinta arrived in 1493. The town has excellent services, seafood restaurants, and varied accommodation.
Terrain: Coastal cliff paths, rocky trails, some paved sections, beach approaches
