About This Stage
The route crosses the rolling Galician interior through eucalyptus forest, small farming villages, and pastoral countryside. The path passes through Ferreira (an alternative overnight for those who split differently) before reaching Melide.
Melide is where the Primitivo meets the Camino Frances, and the change in atmosphere is immediate: more pilgrims, more services, more bustle. The town is famous throughout Galicia for its pulpo a feira (octopus served on wooden plates with paprika and olive oil), and competing pulperias line the main street.
The Romanesque Iglesia de Santa Maria and a medieval cruceiro in the main square testify to Melide's Jacobean heritage. From here, the final stages to Santiago follow the Frances through Arzua and O Pedrouzo.
