About This Stage
The route follows the Lot and Cele river valleys towards the historic town of Figeac. The terrain is gentler than the previous days, with pleasant river valley walking and moderate rolling hills.
Figeac is the birthplace of Jean-Francois Champollion, who deciphered the Egyptian hieroglyphs using the Rosetta Stone. A huge reproduction of the stone fills the courtyard of his birthplace museum. The medieval old town is a delight of half-timbered houses, covered arcades, and stone-carved doorways.
Look for the solheilhos, the open-topped attic galleries used for drying plants and storing grain, unique to the architecture of this region.
Terrain: River valley paths, gentle hills, rural lanes, urban streets
