About La Mesa
La Mesa is a tiny mountain hamlet at one of the highest points on the Camino Primitivo, one of the most remote and exposed stopping points on any Camino route. The hamlet has an albergue and a bar, with no other services.
The surrounding landscape is wild mountain terrain with sweeping views when conditions are clear. Weather can change rapidly at this altitude, and fog, wind, and rain are common.
La Mesa is the end point of the Hospitales route variant and the start of the descent towards Grandas de Salime. Pilgrims should carry water and food, as services are non-existent between stops on this stretch.
