About San Román Da Retorta
San Romao da Retorta is a tiny hamlet in the Galician countryside, the last dedicated stop on the Camino Primitivo before the route joins the Camino Frances at Melide. The hamlet has a Romanesque church and an albergue.
Services are very basic, with a bar and little else. The surrounding landscape is classic inland Galicia, with green farms, stone cruceiros, and eucalyptus forest.
From San Romao, the walk to Melide completes the Camino Primitivo, where pilgrims join the Frances for the final stages to Santiago. The increase in pilgrim numbers at Melide is noticeable after the quieter Primitivo.
