About This Stage
The path passes through the deepest Asturian interior, ascending and descending continuously through a landscape of livestock farms, ancient forests, and tiny stone hamlets. A worthwhile detour leads to the Monasterio de Santa Maria La Real de Obona, a 13th-century Benedictine foundation with a cloister and church.
Campiello, an ancient muleteer and traveller's rest stop surrounded by prehistoric burial mounds (tumulos funerarios), makes a good intermediate stop with two albergues and restaurants. Beyond Campiello, the route crosses increasingly wild mountain terrain through Borres.
Pola de Allande sits in a mountain valley, a small town with basic services. The beauty of this stage lies in its profound rural character: horreos, stone farmhouses, chestnut forests, and the silent Asturian mountains stretching in every direction.
Terrain: Mountain paths, steep forest trails, exposed ridge sections, river valley descent
